Fashion Friday | Choosing Clothing for Family Photos | Massachusetts Family and Child Photographer

Even though we are expecting another round of snow here in Massachusetts this weekend, Spring is coming! I can feel it! In just a couple of weeks, we will be turning the clocks ahead an hour, which means longer days, and you know what that means? EVENING PHOTO SHOOTS! CAN'T WAIT! I can also tell that Spring is just around the corner because my calendar for weekend and evening outdoor shoots is starting to bust at the seams. LOVE it! Oh yeah, did you see my Spring Mini Session post? Don't delay if you're interested because I have a feeling they will sell out pretty quickly. Ok, back to the Fashion post. This has to be the question that I get asked the most when it comes to family sessions: WHAT SHOULD WE ALL WEAR?

Instead of making one gigantic post, I'm going to break things up a bit, just so it doesn't get too overwhelming. This is the first in a series of posts that will take you step-by-step on how to choose the best outfits for your family photos.

GUIDELINE #1

Pick a color scheme of 3 colors and stick to it. But how?? You're thinking there are sooooo many colors to choose from and how do I know what goes together?

First, think about where you are going to hang your photos (because you are NOT going to just leave them on the disk you get from me or put the prints in a drawer to hang "later", right?). If you are going to hang them in a big collage on a wall in your living room, look at your wall color, your curtain color, accent piece colors. Then, go over to Design Seeds and plug them in. I usually start with the wall color and see what comes up, which is exactly what I did for the palettes below. Choose which colors most appeal to you and which  you think look best on your family.

Now, go play around on Design Seeds. Save your color palettes to Pinterest, so you can play along with the next Clothing Guideline for Choosing Clothing for Family Photos that will be posted next week. (Are you following me on Pinterest? If so, share your board with me! I'd love to see what color combinations you come up with.)

Oh, and don't forget, I am here to help! I am more than happy to send you specific outfit ideas based on the location of your session, the formality of your shots, how styled you want your session to be, the colors in the rooms where you will be using your photos, whether it be on your walls or in an album, etc..
